Filled with art and antiques, fossils and historical documents, the Tennessee State Museum provides a fascinating, comprehensive look at life in the nation's 16th state. Its collection begins with the ancient Indian cultures that roamed the lands many thousands of years ago, exploring their ways of life and cultural traditions, before moving to the 18th century and onward through times when Tennessee was considered a frontier in the 18th century, a prosperous 19th century region and a tumultuous post-Civil War state. The museum's three floors of exhibits and educational areas are located just southeast of the Tennessee State Capitol Building, only a short distance from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the Sommet Center.
Open Tue. - Sat. 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Sun. 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Closed Mon.
