Built in 1799 by John Overton, one of Nashville's early influential citizens, Travellers' Rest Plantation & Museum offers to visitors a carefully restored mansion and grounds, featuring antique items and art pertaining to the residence's storied past. Guests can participate in one of two guided historical tours, The Life and Times of Judge John Overton or The Civil War at Travellers' Rest, each offering a different perspective on local history. The home is surrounded by nine acres of gardens and shaded, grassy areas, open for self-guided walks about the grounds. The building and grounds reside about 7 miles south of downtown Nashville, a short distance away from Radnor Lake State Park.
