Can anyone tell me if this is the type of place I can put on a good suit and enjoy some jazz without feeling like I'm over dressed? I'm 34 and just wanna find a nice atmosphere, free of hip-hop though I love it to the death, to relax and maybe have a conversation of substance with people who are willing to talk about more than Michael Jackson's death.

My wife and I had been looking forward to visiting F. Scott's for some time. We decided to try out the bar. I spent five minutes trying to find a wine selection that was appealing and reasonably priced. When I told the sommelier standing behind the bar that I wasn't knocked out by the selection, she made an indignant gesture, grabbed the wine list, and walked away. She then went out of her way to have loud conversations with other guests nearby around how she selects wines...conversations that my wife and I were very clearly meant to hear. It actually took several minutes for one bartender to get me a drink at one point, even after she'd taken my order. Of course, having her mother come to the bar was probably a distraction since she spent most of her time talking to her. I also overheard some slightly unexpected comments on other patrons there. Disappointing and not what I expected given the reputation here in Nashville.

Nice 20's ambiance, much older crowd, no wait on a Friday night. As for the food, I ordered the beef tenderloin and the beef and all the sides including the sauce were very bland. Even salt didn't help. The bread basket came out with stale bread. Live jazz in the bar was nice but I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Not only is F. scott;s the best restaurant in Nashville, but it compares favorably with wonderful restaurants around the world. The menu is seasonal, and there are always specials. The food is uniformly interesting, innovative and most important, absolutely delicious. The portions are ample, but not ridiculous. The servers are always well informed, and warm and attentive, without being intrusive. The entire environment is comfortable and relaxed, yet special enough for a dressy occasion. The daily, live jazz from the bar provides great background music but it is still quiet enough for pleasant conversation. Elise, one of the owners, is a wine expert, and fills her list with interesting, unusual and fairly priced bottles. She loves to help you choose. F. Scott's is a delightful experience in every way.
